London Fashion Week (LFW) is a prestigious event in the global fashion calendar, celebrated for its fashion showcases and as a platform for innovation and cultural expression. When LFW sought to improve its digital presence, it chose our CBTW multidisciplinary team of product designers, web developers, and project managers to revitalize its website and CMS. This case study details the strategic enhancements we implemented to elevate LFW’s digital platform, ensuring it transcends traditional physical engagement with innovative digital experiences.

Creating a unified digital experience for a global audience

LFW needed a partner capable of maintaining and enhancing its digital platform while driving innovation in the user experience. The LFW website digitally manifests London’s influence on the global fashion stage and delivers an experience as diverse, creative, and luxurious as the event itself.

Their challenges with their current website

London Fashion Week (LFW) faced a major challenge: its website was outdated, overly complex, and burdened with significant technical debt. This not only made the platform difficult to maintain but also impacted its overall user experience. With the September 2023 Fashion Week approaching, our primary goal was to comprehensively overhaul and simplify the existing code base. This was essential to improve the site’s maintainability and ensure a smoother, more user-friendly experience.

Our approach to revitalizing the digital platform

Our strategy was to strengthen the foundation of the site with improved web development, user experience, and digital platform analytics to optimize overall site performance:

Monitoring and improvement of the websites

We implemented comprehensive monitoring systems to proactively detect and address defects or bugs to ensure continuous improvement in site performance. This included the use of advanced metrics collection tools and dashboards for real-time insights.

Strategic overhaul and incident resolution in the back end

Our initial focus was a complete rewrite of the back end, followed by the front end, simplifying complex processes to reduce the burden of technical debt. This made the site faster, easier to use, and more reliable, especially important during high-traffic events like Fashion Week.

User-centric design development

We introduced new content and design elements tailored to engage LFW’s diverse audience. We are currently updating design elements as needed, and have already completed a redesign of the Event Schedule page to improve functionality and user interaction.

Collaborative and agile development process

Our project management framework facilitated efficient collaboration between design and development teams. We used agile methodologies, such as sprint planning and reviews, to ensure that all enhancements aligned with LFW’s strategic goals and were delivered on time.

Benefits of the updated CMS and web experience

The updates to the London Fashion Week website have significantly improved the user experience, particularly with the ongoing design updates. We have optimized the underlying code and are currently updating the design elements as needed.

  • Streamlined back-end processes: Our efforts to simplify back-end processes have improved operational efficiency. While the CMS was already in place, our work focused on cleaning and optimizing it to reduce complexity and improve functionality. This optimization allows the LFW team to more effectively manage day-to-day operations and maintain control of their digital platform without implementing a new CMS system.
  • Marketing and analytics integration: At the same time, our marketing team implemented robust analytics solutions to measure and optimize user engagement. This integration provides valuable insights into user behavior and preferences and supports targeted marketing initiatives.

Conclusion

Working with LFW, we demonstrated our ability to integrate technical maintenance with forward-thinking digital strategies. The project addressed immediate digital improvement needs and laid the groundwork for ongoing digital development and day-to-day management. Through this collaboration, we helped LFW transform its digital platform into a dynamic and engaging environment that seamlessly bridges fashion’s physical and digital worlds. By using responsive web design, we further enhanced the user experience for fashion events.
