Addressing the Complexities of Business Travel Organization

Our customer, a start-up, aimed to develop a dedicated web and mobile application for companies and business travelers. They liked to develop a solution that would assist employees in organizing their business trips while providing a single access point for all travel-related information.

In this context, our customer engaged us to build:

  • A mobile application for travelers featuring expense reports, smart agendas, trip timelines, interactive profiles, portfolios, a service rating system, and more.
  • A web application for travel managers including traveler information, billing functionalities, and other management tools.

Developing a Business Travel App

To best meet our customer’s expectations, we divided the project into several distinct phases:

UX Audit

We began with a comprehensive UX/UI analysis to evaluate the user journey and experience envisioned by our customer. This phase allowed us to identify and address any friction points and major issues in the user experience, ensuring a smooth and intuitive interface for both travelers and travel managers.

Understanding Needs and Defining Personas

Next, we focused on understanding the specific needs of the end-users by defining detailed user personas. This step was crucial in tailoring the application to meet the varied requirements of business travelers and travel managers.

Scoping

In this phase, we developed a user story backlog that outlined all the desired features and functionalities. This backlog served as a roadmap for the subsequent development process, ensuring that all critical aspects were addressed systematically.

Development

During the development phase, we delivered the planned features and integrated information from various external systems to enrich the application’s functionality. Key integrations included:

  • CDS (a professional hotel reservation platform)
  • Amadeus (an air travel reservation and data platform)
  • Award Wallet (email parsing)
  • Dimo software (expense management software)

This integration ensured that users could access a comprehensive suite of tools and information, enhancing the overall travel management experience.

Streamline Business Travel Management Struggles

  • Simplified Management: The web application for travel managers streamlines the management of business travel, providing essential tools for traveler information and billing.
  • Efficiency: By integrating with systems like CDS, Amadeus, Award Wallet, and Dimo software, the application enhances efficiency and reduces manual workload.
  • Improved Communication: The new platform facilitates better communication between business travelers and travel managers, ensuring smoother operations and quicker resolutions to travel-related issues.

In conclusion, this web and mobile application have empowered our client to offer an innovative and efficient solution for managing business travel, benefiting both companies and its employees.

With the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) now in full force and the EU AI Act raising the bar on AI transparency, the "our vendor handles that" defense is no longer viable. Regulators don't accept it. Auditors don't accept it. And increasingly, your board shouldn't either.
